The Terhalle Group’s timber construction contributes to the traffic turnaround in the state of Brandenburg 14 wooden RadPark facilities for weather-protected parking spaces for bicycles and cargo bikes are being built in 13 municipalities near railroad stations to meet the increasing demand for parking facilities. The state of Brandenburg has set up a model program for this and is funding local authorities with 90% of the construction costs and 100% of the planning costs. The project is being coordinated by the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) and the design of all facilities and supervision of the project planning is being provided by the Berlin planning office BahnStadt Planungsgesellschaft für Bahnhofsentwicklung mbH. The large bicycle parking facility in Eichwalde, which is located on the south-eastern outskirts of Berlin, marks the start of the project. Commuters travel 50 minutes by S-Bahn from there to Berlin city center. The 12 modules provide 346 parking spaces in an open double parking system combined with the closed module variant for higher-value bikes. Additional features include repair pillars, information pillars/walls, video surveillance and external packing stations to generate the highest possible usage rate. The open standard modules measuring 6.50 x 6.50 m (24 to 48 parking spaces) can be combined with the closed MIDI module measuring 6.50 x 4.30 m (6 to 28 parking spaces) in a variety of ways. This also applies to the rounded pent roof made of cross laminated timber; sometimes greened, sometimes with a solar roof, the 1m wide roof overhang provides sufficient weather protection. Flexibility is a top priority anyway! Whether extensions with additional modules on the optional areas, conversion of open parking areas to closed ones (and vice versa), from single-storey to double-storey parking rows or locker extensions – everything has been thought of. By mid-2026, 2,977 new bike parking spaces will be created – let’s get to work! #wood construction #berlin #brandenburg #radpark #radabstellplätze
